Shown here is a prototype canopy pole utilizing linear grappling technology. The pole is in its storage format. All the necessary components are inside. The pole is a stand-alone system complete with stakes and guy roping. USS stands for Universal Shelter System. You can suspend any tarp, plastic or fabric to any size and configuration. The system is completely customizable each and every time you use it. Use as many or as few poles as you like to configure exactly what you need! Unlike other shelter systems the USS is super lightweight and compact for easy transport. It blends right in with your other camping gear yet will become the centerpiece of your camping equipment. Once suspended the USS is super strong to provide the protection ordinarily reserved for "full frame" shelter systems weighing hundreds of pounds. The USS is ideal for recreation like picnics, camping, and family gatherings as well as temporary shelter for disaster relief, forest fire operations, extended field operations and other shelter dependent situations.

Perimeter Pole Prototype

A typical USS canopy setup for the folks at CBC Products is to suspend a 20' (6m) x 40' (12m) tarp. 12 perimeter poles and two center poles are used. The entire camp is set up underneath!	A closer look at the carefree style of camping you can experience under the USS. Tents, cooking, storage and lounging areas are all underneath. When it rains and pours your whole camp stays dry!
This perimeter pole is oriented as shown to suspend the tarp corner. The corner grommet is of no interest and shows why the acronym USS stands for Universal Shelter System. The gripping sleeve is approximately 20" (500mm) long to distribute the load. This form of load distribution permits the suspension of lightweight materials. Also note the Green EZ Grabbit tarp holder to the right being used to create a temporary tarp wall!	An honest look at an honest camping experience under the USS. Notice the tents easily fit under the USS with room to spare. Not shown are two other tents at the other end of the USS. Total tent sleeping capacity under this setup is 16.
